Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups (315g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup (170g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup (60ml) sour cream
  • ½ cup (100g) brown sugar
  • ¾ cup (95g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup (60g) unsalted butter, melted
  • ½ cup (60g) powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a larger bowl, use a hand or stand mixer to beat the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 minutes.
  4. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and sour cream to the butter mixture. Beat until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms. Avoid overmixing.
  6. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, and melted butter until crumbly.
  7. Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to drop balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Sprinkle a generous amount of the crumb topping onto each cookie, gently pressing it into the dough.
  9. Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Don’t overbake—these cookies should remain soft.
  10. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
  11. Whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract together. Drizzle over cooled cookies.

Notes

Chill the dough for 15-20 minutes if your kitchen is warm to prevent spreading. Add a splash of maple syrup to the glaze for extra flavor.
