deconstructed lasagna dip - featured image

A quick and easy party appetizer that captures the cozy, cheesy goodness of classic lasagna in a shareable dip form. Perfect for potlucks, game-day snacks, or casual get-togethers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage, browned and drained (use turkey sausage for a leaner option)
  • 2 cups tomato sauce (no-sugar-added preferred)
  • 1 cup small-curd cottage cheese
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning (oregano, basil, thyme blend)
  • Handful fresh basil, chopped (optional)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef or Italian sausage and cook, breaking apart with a spatula, until browned and no longer pink, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add minced garlic to the meat and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. In a medium bowl, combine cottage cheese, ricotta, shredded mozzarella, and grated Parmesan. Stir until smooth and well combined.
  5. Add Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using) to the cheese mixture and stir well.
  6. In a baking dish, spread half of the tomato sauce on the bottom. Layer the cheese mixture evenly on top, then sprinkle the cooked meat over the cheese. Cover with the remaining tomato sauce.
  7. Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes until cheese is bubbly and slightly golden.
  8. Remove from oven, sprinkle with chopped fresh basil, and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.
  9. Serve warm with crusty bread, pita chips, or fresh vegetables for dipping.

Notes

Drain browned meat well to avoid greasy dip. Use small-curd cottage cheese and fresh ricotta for best creamy texture. If tomato sauce is watery, simmer to thicken before assembling. Cover with foil halfway through baking if cheese browns too quickly. Can be assembled ahead and baked just before serving. Freeze in airtight container up to 2 months.
