  • 3/4 cup (180 ml) whole milk, warmed
  • 3 tablespoons (43 grams) unsalted butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • Vegetable oil (for air fryer spray)
  • 1 cup (120 grams) powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla powder

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk to about 110°F (43°C) and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, instant yeast, granulated sugar, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the egg, then stir in melted butter and warm milk.
  4. Gradually pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
  5. Lightly flour a surface and knead dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for about 45 minutes until doubled in size.
  7. Punch down dough and roll out to 1/2-inch (1.3 cm) thickness. Cut into 2-inch (5 cm) squares.
  8. Preheat air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for 3 minutes.
  9. Spray air fryer basket with vegetable oil and arrange dough squares in a single layer without overcrowding.
  10. Air fry at 350°F (175°C) for 6-8 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crispy.
  11. While cooking, sift powdered sugar and vanilla powder together.
  12. Remove beignets from air fryer and immediately dust with vanilla powdered sugar. Serve warm.

Notes

Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking and crispiness. Flip beignets halfway through cooking. Warm milk is essential to activate yeast properly. Serve immediately after dusting with sugar for best texture. Leftovers can be reheated in the air fryer at 320°F for 3-4 minutes to restore crispiness.
