These crispy cheesy pizza sushi rolls combine bubbling mozzarella, spicy pepperoni, and fresh basil wrapped in a crispy golden roll, perfect for a handheld pizza party with a sushi vibe.

  • 8 large flour tortillas (10-inch size)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (about 200g)
  • 1 cup sliced pepperoni (about 100g)
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves (loosely packed)
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce or marinara (about 120ml)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or vegetable oil (for frying)
  • Optional: extra pizza sauce for dipping
  • Optional: grated Parmesan cheese for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Lay out your tortillas on a clean surface. Slice pepperoni if not pre-sliced. Rinse and pat dry basil leaves. Measure out shredded mozzarella and pizza sauce.
  2. Spread about 2 tablespoons of pizza sauce evenly over each tortilla, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges to prevent overflow.
  3. Sprinkle a generous 1/4 cup (50g) of shredded mozzarella over the sauce. Layer about 12-15 pepperoni slices evenly, then scatter fresh basil leaves on top.
  4. Starting from one edge, roll the tortilla tightly like sushi, tucking in the sides as you go to keep the fillings inside.
  5. Using a sharp knife, cut each roll into 6-8 bite-sized pieces. Arrange them on a plate, seam side down to hold their shape.
  6. Warm 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat until shimmering but not smoking.
  7. Place the rolls seam side down in the pan. Cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy, pressing gently with a spatula.
  8. Remove rolls from the pan and place on a paper towel-lined plate to soak up excess oil. Serve warm with extra pizza sauce and a sprinkle of Parmesan if desired.

Notes

Roll tortillas tightly to prevent filling from falling out during frying. Use medium heat to avoid burning. Press rolls gently while frying to keep them compact and crispy. Can be made ahead and refrigerated for up to 24 hours before frying. For a lighter option, bake at 400°F for 15-20 minutes.
