Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (200g) brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (100g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (225g) caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream (optional, for thinning the caramel)
  • ½ cup (60g) chopped pecans, toasted
  • ½ cup (90g) chocolate chips (optional, for extra indulgence)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line your 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, letting the edges hang over for easy removal.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Sift the flour, cocoa powder, and salt into the wet ingredients. Use a spatula to gently fold the mixture until just combined—don’t overmix.
  4. Spread half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan, smoothing it out with a spatula. Set the remaining batter aside.
  5. Warm the caramel sauce slightly if it’s too thick, and stir in the heavy cream if needed. Drizzle the caramel evenly over the brownie layer.
  6. Carefully spoon the remaining brownie batter over the caramel layer and gently spread it out with a spatula, ensuring you don’t mix the caramel into the batter.
  7. Sprinkle the toasted pecans and chocolate chips over the top, pressing them lightly into the batter.
  8. Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs (not wet batter).
  9. Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for at least 1 hour. Use the parchment paper to lift them out and place them on a cutting board.
  10. Use a sharp knife to slice into squares or rectangles. Serve them as is or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for extra indulgence.
