These bite-sized Caprese skewers combine cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella pearls, and basil leaves with a tangy balsamic glaze, perfect for quick, fuss-free party appetizers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 20 to 25 cherry tomatoes, washed and dried
  • 20 to 25 fresh mozzarella pearls (bocconcini), about 1 ounce (28 grams) each
  • 20 to 25 fresh basil leaves
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) balsamic glaze
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 20 to 25 mini skewers or toothpicks

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the cherry tomatoes and basil leaves thoroughly. Halve tomatoes if large to keep bite-sized.
  2. Drain mozzarella pearls and pat dry with paper towels to avoid sogginess.
  3. In a mixing bowl, gently combine tomatoes and mozzarella with 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil, a pinch of salt, and freshly ground black pepper.
  4. Take a mini skewer or toothpick and thread one cherry tomato (or half if large), followed by a basil leaf folded in half, then a mozzarella pearl. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
  5. Arrange the finished skewers on a serving platter.
  6. Lightly drizzle about ¼ cup balsamic glaze over the skewers using a spoon or squeeze bottle.
  7. Optionally, sprinkle a few extra basil leaves on the platter for garnish.
  8. Serve immediately or chill in the fridge for up to an hour before serving.

Notes

Use fresh, high-quality ingredients for best flavor. Pat dry mozzarella and tomatoes to avoid sogginess. Assemble skewers just before serving to keep basil fresh. If balsamic glaze is too thick, thin with a teaspoon of warm water. For vegan option, substitute mozzarella with marinated tofu or vegan cheese and use a maple-balsamic reduction.
