A festive and easy-to-assemble charcuterie board featuring star-shaped cheeses, savory meats, fresh berries, and crunchy crackers, perfect for patriotic celebrations and casual get-togethers.

Ingredients

  • Sharp cheddar cheese block, chilled
  • Monterey Jack or mozzarella block, chilled
  • Optional: Blue cheese crumbles
  • Thinly sliced salami or pepperoni
  • Prosciutto or smoked ham slices
  • Summer sausage, sliced
  • Strawberries, hulled and halved
  • Blueberries
  • Red grapes or cherry tomatoes
  • Water crackers or multigrain crackers
  • Sliced baguette or crostini, toasted
  • Marcona almonds or roasted pecans
  • Olives (green or black, pitted)
  • Honey or fig jam
  • Fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme

Instructions

  1. Chill your cheeses: Place cheddar and Monterey Jack blocks in the fridge for at least an hour before prepping.
  2. Cut star shapes: Using a small metal star-shaped cookie cutter (1 to 1.5 inches wide), press firmly down on cheese blocks to create stars. Aim for 20–30 stars total.
  3. Slice meats: Arrange thin slices of salami, prosciutto, and summer sausage on a plate, folding or rolling some pieces for texture variety. Use about 4 ounces total meat for a medium board.
  4. Prepare fruits: Wash berries and grapes thoroughly. Hull strawberries and halve them. Cherry tomatoes can stay whole or halved.
  5. Toast bread: Slice baguette into thin rounds and toast at 375°F (190°C) for about 5 minutes until golden and crisp.
  6. Arrange the board: Place small bowls or ramekins for olives, nuts, and honey near the edges. Scatter star-shaped cheeses evenly around the board. Tuck folded meats in clusters between cheese stars. Fill gaps with berries and grapes, balancing colors for a patriotic red, white, and blue effect.
  7. Garnish: Add fresh herbs like rosemary sprigs or thyme. Drizzle honey or place fig jam near crackers.
  8. Final check: Adjust clusters or add more crackers if needed. Serve immediately or cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 2 hours before serving.

Notes

Chill cheese blocks before cutting to prevent crumbling and keep star shapes crisp. Prepare cheese stars and fruits a day ahead for faster assembly. Serve at room temperature but avoid leaving out for more than 2 hours. For gluten-free, use gluten-free crackers or fresh veggie slices. Vegan cheese alternatives or firm tofu can replace dairy cheese for dairy-free diets.
