Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups romaine lettuce, chopped
  • 4 slices cooked bacon, chopped
  • 3 large hard-boiled eggs, peeled and quartered
  • 1 medium ripe avocado, diced
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 cup cooked chicken breast, diced
  • 1/2 cup blue cheese crumbles (optional)
  • 2 stalks green onions, sliced
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk (or milk + 1 tsp lemon juice)
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Salad Ingredients (10-15 minutes): Wash and dry romaine lettuce thoroughly. Chop into bite-sized pieces and place in a large salad bowl. Chop cooked bacon into small pieces. Quarter hard-boiled eggs. Dice avocado just before assembling to prevent browning. Halve cherry tomatoes. Dice cooked chicken breast. Slice green onions thinly. Crumble blue cheese if using.
  2. Make the Homemade Ranch Dressing (5 minutes): In a medium mixing bowl, combine mayonnaise, sour cream, and buttermilk. Add chopped parsley and dill. Sprinkle in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Add fresh lemon juice. Whisk until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  3. Assemble the Salad (5 minutes): Arrange chopped ingredients over the romaine in rows or sections: bacon, eggs, avocado, tomatoes, chicken, green onions, and blue cheese crumbles. Toss if preferred.
  4. Serve: Drizzle the creamy homemade ranch dressing over the salad or serve on the side. Add freshly cracked black pepper if desired. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

Dry lettuce thoroughly to avoid sogginess. Make ranch dressing ahead and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes for best flavor. Bake bacon on a sheet pan for even crispness. Dice avocado last and toss with lemon juice to prevent browning. Keep dressing separate if preparing in advance. Variations include vegetarian, dairy-free, and spicy ranch options.
