A quick and easy homemade popsicle recipe featuring juicy mixed berries with a subtle spicy kick from chili powder, perfect for refreshing summer treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups (300 g) fresh mixed berries (strawberries hulled and halved, blueberries, raspberries)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) fresh lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons (30 ml) honey or agave nectar (maple syrup can be used as a substitute)
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder (smoked chili powder optional)
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) water
  • A pinch of sea salt
  • Optional: a few fresh mint leaves for muddling or garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse all fresh berries under cold water and gently pat dry. Hull and halve the strawberries to roughly match the size of blueberries and raspberries for even texture.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine lime juice, honey (or your sweetener of choice), chili powder, sea salt, and water. Stir until the honey dissolves completely.
  3. Using a blender or food processor, pulse the berries lightly—do not puree—to keep a chunky texture.
  4. Pour the berry chunks into the base mixture and stir gently to coat all pieces evenly. If adding mint, tear the leaves and stir them in now.
  5. Spoon the berry mixture into popsicle molds, leaving a little room at the top for expansion. Tap molds lightly on the counter to settle the mixture and remove air bubbles.
  6. Insert sticks into the molds and freeze for at least 6 hours or overnight until completely solid.
  7. To unmold, dip the molds briefly in warm water to loosen before gently pulling the popsicles free.

Notes

Do not over-blend the berries to keep a chunky texture. Adding a pinch of sea salt enhances the berry sweetness and balances the chili heat. If popsicles are too icy, stir the mixture halfway through freezing. Fresh lime juice is preferred over bottled for brightness. Use frozen berries thawed and drained if fresh are unavailable. Adjust chili powder to taste or omit for a purely sweet version.
