Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 4 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)
  • 1/4 cup milk (for frosting)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper or grease it well.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt 1 cup (2 sticks) of unsalted butter. Let it cool slightly.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, 2 cups granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup packed brown sugar until smooth. Add 4 large eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.
  4. In another bowl, sift together 1 cup all-purpose flour, 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/2 teaspoon baking powder.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  7. Let the brownies cool in the pan for at least 20 minutes before frosting.
  8. In a bowl, beat together 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened), 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, and 1/4 cup milk until smooth. Gradually add 3 cups powdered sugar, beating until the frosting is thick and glossy.
  9. Spread the frosting over the cooled brownies in an even layer. Let it set for 10-15 minutes.
  10. Lift the brownies out of the pan using the parchment paper. Slice into squares and enjoy!
