A cozy, comforting chai latte with festive spices like cinnamon, cardamom, and cloves, perfect for the holiday season.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 23 black tea bags or loose leaf (Assam or Darjeeling)
  • 2 cups whole milk (or almond, oat, or coconut milk for dairy-free options)
  • 1 cup water
  • 23 tablespoons honey, maple syrup, or granulated sugar
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 56 cardamom pods (crushed slightly)
  • 45 whole cloves
  • 1-inch piece of ginger, sliced
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • A pinch of nutmeg

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, bring 1 cup of water to a gentle boil. Add black tea, cinnamon sticks, cardamom pods, cloves, ginger slices, and nutmeg.
  2. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes to infuse the flavors.
  3. Strain the tea mixture using a fine mesh strainer to remove the spices and tea leaves.
  4. Return the strained tea to the saucepan and add 2 cups of milk. Heat gently over medium heat, stirring occasionally until warmed through, but do not boil.
  5. Whisk in your sweetener of choice and vanilla extract. Taste and adjust sweetness or spice levels as desired.
  6. Use a frother or whisk to create foam in the milk for a frothy finish, if desired.
  7. Pour the chai latte into mugs, garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg, and serve warm.

Notes

Simmer spices gently to avoid bitterness. Use fresh ginger and whole spices for the best flavor. Adjust sweetness and spice levels to your preference.
