A quick and easy festive dessert featuring a sugar cookie base topped with a creamy cream cheese glaze and fresh red, white, and blue fruit arranged in a patriotic flag design.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 to 15 large sugar cookies (store-bought or homemade)
  • 8 ounces (225g) softened full-fat cream cheese
  • 1 cup (120g) powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 cup blueberries, washed and dried
  • 1 cup banana slices or white peaches, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Prepare the glaze: In a medium mixing bowl, beat 8 ounces softened cream cheese until creamy and smooth, about 1-2 minutes using a hand mixer or stand mixer on medium speed.
  2. Add powdered sugar and vanilla: Gradually add 1 cup sifted powdered sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Beat until fully combined and fluffy, scraping down the sides as needed.
  3. Thin the glaze: Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of heavy cream or milk, one tablespoon at a time, beating until the glaze is spreadable but not runny.
  4. Prepare the fruit: Wash all fruit thoroughly. Hull and slice strawberries into thin strips for the red flag stripes. Slice bananas or peaches thinly for the white stripes. Keep blueberries whole for the star field.
  5. Arrange the sugar cookies: Lay out the sugar cookies snugly on your serving platter to form a rough rectangle as the flag base.
  6. Spread the cream cheese glaze generously over the sugar cookies, covering all edges and seams.
  7. Create the flag pattern: Arrange blueberries in a small square at the top left corner for the stars. Next to and below that, alternate stripes of strawberries and banana or peach slices to mimic the flag’s red and white stripes.
  8. Chill before serving: Refrigerate the assembled fruit pizza for at least 30 minutes to let the glaze set and flavors meld.
  9. Serve and enjoy: Slice into squares or rectangles with a sharp knife. Serve chilled or at room temperature.

Notes

Keep cream cheese at room temperature for smooth whipping. Add liquid slowly to glaze to avoid runniness. Chill assembled pizza for at least 30 minutes before serving to set glaze and meld flavors. Slice fruit thinly but not paper-thin for best appearance. Store covered in refrigerator up to 2 days; best served chilled or at room temperature.
