Perfect Wednesday Addams Black Food Board - featured image

A spooky, easy-to-assemble black-themed food board inspired by Wednesday Addams, featuring a mix of smoky, savory, and sweet black foods perfect for Halloween or any eerie gathering.

Ingredients

  • Black bean hummus (store-bought or homemade)
  • Black garlic cloves
  • Activated charcoal crackers or black sesame crackers
  • Black olives, pitted and sliced (preferably Kalamata)
  • Squid ink bread or dark rye slices
  • Blackened salami or dark cured meats
  • Smoked mozzarella or aged cheddar
  • Black sesame-coated goat cheese balls (optional)
  • Black grapes or blackberries (fresh or frozen)
  • Black figs or dried prunes
  • Charred or blackened cherry tomatoes
  • Fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs
  • Black garlic aioli (black garlic paste mixed with mayo or vegan mayo)
  • Balsamic glaze

Instructions

  1. Prepare the spreads and dips: Scoop black bean hummus into a small bowl and smooth the surface. Mix black garlic paste with mayo to form black garlic aioli and set aside.
  2. Slice the meats and cheeses: Cut blackened salami into thin, bite-sized rounds. Slice smoked mozzarella or cheddar into small chunks or wedges. Roll goat cheese balls in black sesame seeds if using. Arrange in small clusters on the board.
  3. Prep the fruits and veggies: Wash and dry black grapes or blackberries. Slice black olives into halves or quarters. Char cherry tomatoes in a hot pan for about 3 minutes until skins blacken and blister.
  4. Arrange the base elements: Lay out activated charcoal crackers or black sesame crackers in small piles. Arrange slices of squid ink bread or dark rye next to the crackers.
  5. Build the board: Place bowls of hummus and black garlic aioli on the board. Fill spaces with clusters of meats, cheeses, olives, and fruits. Add dried prunes or figs in small bunches. Garnish with fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs.
  6. Final touches: Drizzle balsamic glaze lightly over some cheese and fruits. Add toothpicks or small forks for easy picking.

Notes

Use contrast wisely by adding fresh rosemary or a few red tomatoes to balance the black theme. Avoid overcrowding the board to allow easy access. Replace stale crackers or bread before serving. Charring cherry tomatoes adds smoky depth but do not overcook. Prepare ingredients ahead and assemble 30 minutes before serving for best flavor melding.
