A quick and easy homemade lemonade recipe that delivers a crisp, tangy, and refreshing drink perfect for summer. Made with fresh lemons, sugar, and water, it’s a healthier alternative to store-bought beverages.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 46 medium fresh lemons (about 1 cup or 240 ml lemon juice)
  • 1 cup (200 grams) granulated sugar
  • 5 cups (1.2 liters) cold water
  • Ice cubes, for serving
  • Optional garnishes: fresh mint leaves, lemon slices, sparkling water

Instructions

  1. Rinse 4-6 medium lemons under cool water, then roll them gently on the counter with your palm to loosen the juice (about 2 minutes).
  2. Cut lemons in half and use a citrus juicer or reamer to extract juice into a bowl, approximately 1 cup (240 ml). Strain to remove seeds if desired.
  3. In a large pitcher, combine 1 cup (200 grams) granulated sugar with 1 cup (240 ml) hot water. Stir until sugar is fully dissolved to create a simple syrup base (3-5 minutes).
  4. Add the remaining 4 cups (960 ml) cold water and the freshly squeezed lemon juice to the pitcher. Stir gently to combine.
  5. Taste and adjust sweetness or tartness by adding more sugar, water, or lemon juice as needed.
  6. Add plenty of ice cubes to the pitcher or individual glasses. Garnish with lemon slices or fresh mint leaves. Serve immediately or chill for 30 minutes for smoother flavor.

Notes

Use fresh lemons for best flavor. Dissolve sugar fully in hot water to avoid grainy texture. Adjust sweetness gradually to taste. Chill lemonade for 30 minutes before serving for smoother flavor. Strain lemon juice to remove seeds if preferred. For sparkling lemonade, replace cold water with sparkling water just before serving.
